These steps can only be applied if a network adapter is configured to obtain an IP address automatically (DHCP). The steps will work on all recent Windows versions (7 - 10).

Releasing a DHCP Lease

Step 2: Type ipconfig /release

release the IP address

Step 1: Open a command prompt

Open the Windows command prompt
