Fix “The program can’t start because MSVCR100.dll is missing from your computer.” error on Windows

Wednesday, April 18, 2012 posted by CSch

What hides behind this name is the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable which can easily be downloaded on the Microsoft website as x86 or x64 edition:

32 bit:

64 bit:

Usually the application that misses the dll indicates what version you need - if one does not work, simply install the other.

I just torrented Oblivion and the message “The program can’t start because Binkw32.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.” I don’t think reinstalling it is going to make a difference, and I can’t find the solution online.

Has anyone else had this problem?

  20. Connor says:

I got this message when i tried to install it – “A newer version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable has been detected on the machine.”

But then it asked me if i want to re-install the current one again, so i did and hopefully that worked.

    ***FIX FOR WINDOWS 8 64BIT**

if it says the dll is missing in windows 8 and you have installed the update as per the above post and it still isnt working, the dll is actually missing. turn on the folder view options to show all hidden files, system files and file extensions then go into the
directories and look for the file itself (MSVCR100.dll). it will be missing from one or both directories. you now need to copy the file(s) from another windows 7 or 8 64BIT computer where the redist has installed properly. this WILL fix this issue.

i have had two identical computers with the same updates and one of them had this file missing for no reason… bug methinks..

    • Roy says:

      I’m having the same issue.

Software won’t run. Message: msvcp100.dll missing.

I have downloaded and tried to install vcredist (x86) AND (x64) versions. Get a message “new version already installed”
Followed above instructions. FOUND msvcp100.dll in both locations.

      Utterly disheartened and confused.

      Any other ideas?

Thanx i run windows 8 64… but it was a 32 program i run so i need the one for 32 OS but i am happy now my keylogger work agan 😀

  42. Angel says:

It worked for me…I have a Windows 7 64 bit machine & the 64 bit download did not fix the issue. I had to download the 32 bit version to fix the issue.

  43. Ramone Burrell says:

Thank you. It works. Had this error by SQLDeveloper

  44. Keith Robertson says:

If the message indicates MSVCR110.dll is missing instead, the downloads are here:

  45. Richie Rich says:

Thank you!! that fixed my problem with a Cisco ASDM GUI. I run x64 Windows 7 and the ASDM is x86, I installed the x86 version of the redist, and it worked (the x64 didn’t). Good stuff!!

    Thank you so much !!!

  50. Dave says:

Thanks, I needed this for Azureus after a Java upgrade. The x86 version worked like a charm on my old XP machine (Windows Media Center). Very much appreciated.
