If you are not able to join a domain to Windows Server 2012 and you are not able to ping the domain from client machine, and you get the following error message "Windows Server 2012 domain join not working: Domain is not contacted" then do the following:

  1. Check the firewall, make sure to open ports to allow ADDS.
  2. Make sure client DNS setting is pointing to ADDS DNS or domain controller.
