Snipping tool is a program which is available in Windows 8 and 10. It is used to take screenshots of the entire screen, a rectangular area, or a free-form area. Screenshots can then be saved as PNG, GIF or JPEG files on computer hard drive.

This tool allows basic image editing of the screenshot with the help of colored pens, eraser and high lighter. There is also a new feature which is used for timed capture of screenshots.

Free-Form Snip

  1. In the Snipping Tool, click New -> Free-form snip.
  2. Choose the free-form area with right-click of your mouse.
  3. When you are done release the button of your mouse, save the file (Click File -> Save As).

Rectangular Snip

  1. On Snipping Tool, click New -> Rectangular snip.
  2. Choose the rectangular area with right-click of your mouse.
  3. When you are done release the button of your mouse, save the file (Click File -> Save As).

Full-Screen Snip

  1. On Snipping Tool, click New -> Full screen snip.
  2. Save the file (Click File -> Save As).

    Great tips here thanks. I always use the rectangular snip and now have to click twice when before I could just click once and go.
