If you use BitLocker to encrypt your Windows device disk, you can add an additional security PIN to it. Each time you turn on your PC you will need to enter the PIN before Windows even begins. This is different from a password PIN that you enter after boots up with Windows. In this article, we will guide you through the whole procedure to use BitLocker Pre-Boot PIN on Windows 10.

Use BitLocker Pre-Boot PIN on Windows 10

To use BitLocker Pre-Boot PIN on Windows 10, follow this procedure step by step.

Step#1

Click the Search button. Type BitLocker in the search bar and choose the Manage BitLocker option as the following image is showing.

As soon as you choose the Manage BitLocker option, the following screen will appear.

Click the Turn on BitLocker option to enable the BitLocker as highlighted in the above image.

Step#2

After this again click the Search button. Type Run in the search bar and choose the Run option as the following image is showing.

As soon as you choose the Run option, the following dialogue box will appear.

Type gpeedit.msc in the Open textbox and then click the OK button as highlighted in the above image. The Local Group Policy Editor will open like this.

Navigate through the following path.

Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> BitLocker Drive Encryption -> Operating System Drives

As you follow the path and click the Operating System Drives option, the right pane of the screen displays a lot of options as highlighted in the above image. Double click on the Require additional authentication at startup option and the following dialogue box will appear.

Now select the Enabled radio button. After that select Require startup PIN with TPM option under Configure TPM startup PIN drop down. Click Apply and then OK button as highlighted in the above image. Close the Local Group Policy Editor.

Step#3

Click the Search button. Type Command Prompt in the search bar and right click on the Command Prompt option and choose the Run as administrator option as the following image is showing.

As soon as you click the Run as administrator option, the Command Prompt screen will open. Type the following command in command prompt.

manage-bde -protectors -add c: -TPMAndPIN

Press the Enter key and then enter the PIN as the following image is showing.
