Microsoft's virtual assistant Cortana is one of the significant additions to Windows 10 that is designed to assist you to keep your commitments and getting things done. Microsoft is constantly adding intelligence in Cortana and making it smarter.

It can remind you to perform a task based on time, location, people and even allows you to set photo reminders. Cortana makes use of information like contacts, calendars, browsing history, and location. It is also integrated with other services like Gmail, Office 365, LinkedIn and Outlook account.

There are several ways you can set reminders with Cortana based on different conditions.

1. Time-based reminder

You can use Cortana to set up a time-based reminder to remind you at certain times.

To set up a time-based reminder, click on Cortana search box to open the Cortana app. Click on the notebook icon.

Then click on Create a reminder.

Type a text reminder in the Reminder field.

Then from the options Choose when to be reminded, select the time option and choose the time from the pop-up menu. Then click on Remind.

2. Location-based reminder

Set a reminder with a specific location, so that Cortana can remind you about something when you arrive or depart from that particular location.

Open Cortana app. Click on the notebook icon.

Then click on Create a reminder.

In Add your reminder window, click on Place.

From the drop-down menu, select the option Arrive or Depart to allow Cortana to remind you when you arrive or depart that location simultaneously.

Then from the Search location box, type the address or name of the location or you can also allow Cortana to use your Current location.

Then click on Remind to finish creating location-based reminder.

3. Person-based reminder

You can ask Cortana to remind you about something when a particular person contacts you.

In order to create a people based reminder, make sure the particular person is in your contact list.

Open Cortana app. Click on the notebook icon.

Then click on Create a reminder.

Then click on Person.

From the People app that pops-up, pick the right person.

Add a text reminder. For instance, you want to say thanks to someone when they call you. Then click Remind to create a reminder.

Next time you contact that person, Cortana will remind you to say thanks to that person.

4. Photo-based reminder

You can set up a photo reminder by adding a specific photo in your reminders. For instance, you can take a photo of something that you want to buy and asks Cortana to remind you about it next time you go shopping.

Open the Cortana app. Click on Add a photo Also select the options time, place or person to trigger this reminder.

From the options, you can choose a photo from the Library or by opening a Camera app.

When you are done click on Remind to finish creating a photo-based reminder.

5. Voice-based reminder

You can set a reminder with Cortana by using your voice.

Open Cortana app. Click on the microphone on the bottom-right side of the app. It will start listening. Say something in your voice.

It will listen and pop-up the assistant. You can choose to set time, place or person to trigger the reminder. When finished, click on Remind to exit and save the reminder.

Alternatively, you can also simply ask Cortana to remind about something without opening the Cortana app.

To do this, Press windows icon to open the start menu. Go to Settings > Cortana.

In Talk to Cortana tab, under Hey Cortana, turn the toggle switch to on that says Let Cortana respond to “Hey Cortana”.

Next time whenever you say hey Cortana followed by a command, it will start listening.

It will open a screen, choose the time when you want Cortana to remind you. Click on Remind to create a reminder.
