Read Only content

Open the Excel file in which you want to be protected. Click the Review tab as the following image is showing.

As you click the Review tab, another ribbon will appear below the tabs as the following image is showing.

Now click the Protect Sheet or Protect Workbook option as highlighted in the above image. When you will click the Protect Workbook option, the following dialogue box will appear.

Type the Password and then click the OK button as highlighted in the above image. After clicking the OK button, the following dialogue box will appear.

Now again enter the password in Reenter password to proceed textbox and then click the OK button as highlighted in the above image. After this, you will be able to only view the content but you cannot change it without entering the password.

Password Protected Excel File

Open the Excel file which you want to protect by password. Click the File menu as the following image is showing.

It will open the following options on the screen.

Click the Protect Workbook option. It will open some more options. Then click the Encrypt with Password option as highlighted in the above image. After that, the following dialogue box will appear.

Enter the Password and then click the OK button as highlighted in the above image. As you click the OK button, the following dialogue box will appear.

Now Reenter password and then click the OK button as highlighted in the above image. Now when you will open the file, you will see the following screen.

Without entering the correct password you will not be able to view the content of the file.
