Windows 10 provides you with the flexibility of defining customized rules using the Advanced Firewall Settings. In the same manner, you can also open up new Firewall ports according to your own choice. In this article, we will explain to you the method through which you can open up a port in Windows 10 Firewall.
Opening a Port in Windows 10 Firewall
In order to open a Firewall port in Windows 10, you will need to perform the following steps:
Type control panel in the search section of your taskbar and click on the search result to launch the control panel window. The newly opened Control Panel window is shown in the following image:
Click on the System and Security tab as highlighted in the image shown above.
Now click on the Windows Defender Firewall tab as highlighted in the image shown below:
In the Windows Defender Firewall pane, click on the Advanced Settings tab as shown in the following image:
As soon as you will click on it, the Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security window will appear on the screen as shown in the image below:
Click on the Inbound Rules tab from the extreme left pane of the window as highlighted in the image shown above.
After clicking on it, click on the New Rule option as highlighted in the following image:
As soon as you will click on it, the New Inbound Rule Wizard will appear on your screen as shown in the image below:
Select the radio button corresponding to the Port field as highlighted in the image shown above and then click on the Next button.
Now select the connection type whether TCP or UDP for your new Firewall port and then write the port number of the new port that you want to open in the respective field as highlighted in the image shown below:
Click on the Next button.
Now click on the Allow Connection radio button as highlighted in the following image and then click on the next button.
Select all the Profiles for which you want to open up this port. You can either select a single profile or you can choose multiple profiles as shown in the image below:
After selecting the desired Profiles, click on the Next button.
Finally, name the new port according to your choice and then click on the Finish button. In this example, I have named it as the “NewFirewallPort”. This is highlighted in the following image:
By following the method discussed in this article, you can easily open up a Firewall port in Windows 10. All you need to do is to follow some very simple steps and you can get your work done within a few minutes. However, if you have accidentally opened up any port and do not want it any longer, then you can simply get rid of it by selecting that rule by clicking on it and then clicking the delete option from the extreme left pane of the window.
