Windows 10 is habitual of making use of its default search engine i.e. Microsoft Edge. However, you might want to change that search engine sometime in order to get better search results. In order to force Cortana to use a different search engine in Windows 10, you will need to perform the following steps:
Type settings in the search section of your taskbar and click on the search results to launch a new settings window. The newly opened Settings window is shown in the following image:
Now click on the Apps tab as highlighted in the image shown above.
As soon as you will click on it, the Apps Settings window will appear on your screen as shown in the image below:
In the Apps Settings window, click on the Default Apps tab as highlighted in the image shown above.
Now scroll down to the Web Browser tab and click on whichever web browser is currently used for the search in order to launch a list as highlighted in the following image:
As soon as you will click on the current web browser, a list of different web browsers that you can use for your search will appear on your screen as shown in the image below:
Now choose any browser that you want to use for your search by clicking on it. In this example, I have selected Google Chrome as highlighted in the image shown above.
As soon as you will select your desired browser, it will start appearing under the Web Browser tab as highlighted in the following image:

Edge is a browser – not a search engine. The intent is to not use Bing (the search engine) and use another search engine instead (regardless of the default browser one might set…)
Does not work. Changing your default browser doesn’t change what Cortana uses, which is Edge.
