If you have ever noticed yourself right-clicking anything and realizing where all the garbage came from, then you are not alone. You can do this if you want to get rid of the functionality you are not using and add some other useful things to the context menu. Windows 10 has a ton of options in that context menu by default, and that list expands as you install more software and programs. Often it feels as if every application is battling for a piece of your context menu and many of us don’t even use half of it. In this article, we will guide you through the whole procedure to clean the context menu for Windows 10.
Clean the context menu for Windows 10
To clean the context menu for Windows 10, follow this procedure step by step.
Click the Search button on the taskbar. Type Run in the search box and then click the Run option as the following image is showing.
As soon as you click the Run option, the following dialogue box will appear.
Type Regedit in the Open textbox and then click the OK button as highlighted in the above image. When you will click the OK button, the Registry Editor screen will appear as the following image is showing.
The context menus can be found in the following paths of Registry Editors.
In one of these paths, you can find context menu items unique to folders only.
To remove the Add to VLC media player’s Playlist item, navigate to the following path.
Now there are two options. One is to delete the AddtoPlaylistVCL key and second is to disable it. Right click on the AddtoPlaylistVCL key and choose the New -> String Value as the following image is showing.
Rename the newly created key as LegacyDisable as the following image is showing.
As you create this key, the menu will be removed from the context menu.
To delete the menus of shellx context menu, navigate to the following path.
Now to remove any of its items e.g. 7-Zip, you can delete the menu or disable it. To disable the 7-Zip menu, double the Default option as the following image is showing.
It will open the following dialogue box.
Now change the existing value of the key by putting some dashes at the start of the value. Keep in mind that do not delete the existing value. Then click the OK button as highlighted within the above image. Now, this item will be removed from the context menu.
