iSCSI or Internet Small Computer Interface is a standard to encapsulate iSCSI blocks into Ethernet packets. It is a method which is used to transfer SCSI blocks across IP networks.

iSCSI allows you to build storage area networks over an IP network using Ethernet technology. This removes the limitation that the storage should be directly attached to the server and also gives you flexibility to add more storage without shutting down applications or servers.
