Introduction into Data Deduplication on Windows

Data deduplication is a feature in Windows Server 2012 R2 which is used to find and remove duplication within data. This efficiently maximizes data storage space by storing same multiple copies of data just once. It's a back-end feature and doesn't require any extra hardware. User won't notice that their data is deduplicated.


  • A physical or virtual machine with Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2 installed and at least one volume must exist.
